This is a very manecured place. It's part golf course to keep the Tesla and Corvette drivers busy and off of the highways during the day, but if you walk out far enough, you can still find some rustic rather untouched wilderness, my kinda stuff.
I did end up walking out of the woods and finding Mallard lake right in front of me and beyond it, part of the golf course itself, but it was a pleasant surprise to walk out of the woods after half a mile of walking and "BEHOLD... LAKE".
Oh yeah and happy first post on the new instance. Holla back y'all, my ego needs it.

@firekeeper From my instance, only two of the photos appear. Two of them are blacked out--the spider web and the first garden scene. Pretty photos. I can see all of them when I click "Open original page". Edit: now they show up. Maybe it was just my slow bandwidth. I've never seen that happen before, though.
That would be me, sorry. Most don't catch my stuff within the first five minutes of posting it so most don't notice. I only have 10mbps upload.
It's fine for text, but images take a bit to get around to everyone, usually five minutes for all four in the case of snac2.
you can see why Melania advises Trump against pantomiming like this. yikes

I'm not saying take advantage of this situation, you do you, but, you know, one notices opportunity when it arises.
Don't start chopping vegetables after your third glass of wine. Do not ask me how I know this
@jalefkowit don’t start chopping vegetables / please stick to the napa cabernets that you’re used to
Just a nice pastoral scene for your Friday afternoon.

@elaterite A really nice shot!
@ambivalena Thank you! It was a very pretty drive through Northeastern California yesterday!
@elaterite Sounds nice.
How is your plan with moving go? Still haven't decide how or if you are going to do?
@ambivalena Oh, I am moving! Last March I went to Death Valley to photograph the bloom. Then to nearby Pahrump in Nevada to seriously consider moving there, but I decided against it. Then I decided to take another look at Aztec, New Mexico, & everything fell into place. Nearby Farmington has all of the medical stuff I need & I found a nice trailer space to rent in Aztec. The trailer park is literally next door to Aztec Ruins National Monument! https://www.nps.gov/azru/index.htm
@ambivalena So I will rent my house in Reno. My trailer in Aztec will serve as a base camp while I spend most of my time living in my truck while exploring the Southwest. In the winter I will probably volunteer at Aztec Ruins National Monument. I will do that for a couple of years while looking for property to buy in the Aztec area. I am really stoked! Thanks for asking! 💜
@ambivalena Oh, I hope to be fully moved to Aztec by July. I am presently trying to repair and "idiot proof" everything at my house so I can rent it.

I'm here to ask the same thing!
@TwoClownsEating @TheBreadmonkey @theplaguedoc they’re a very strange and compelling live experience, that’s for sure. Something deeply unsettling about watching masked men rocking out with women dressed as schoolgirls.
@swisslet @TwoClownsEating @theplaguedoc
I'd sort of avoided them before pretty much for that reason. But I've just discovered that they're actually amazing.
keep the chain going, I wanna find new bands. list ten bands you've seen live.
Another look at the emerging summer garb. For folk who know, that is the tower from the water treatment facility next to East Point Park.
I like Logen, Luther, West, Glotka certainly, and I love Frost, bro is just employed, does his job, lol. Dogman's my dude, all the characters rule.
Witty, funny, dramatic, tense, even, dare I say... hot?
I'm halfway through, started Act 2 but I digest media slowly. I might skip back to Foundation 3 before finishing TFL trilogy.

I genuinely believe that the Fediverse offers the best chance of recapturing the friendly, optimistic Internet I loved as a kid.
We've got flaws, sure. I've been critical of aspects of fedi culture, and will continue to do so.
But this place represents hope, and hope is where we start.
You need some #yggdrasil in yo life. Small web vibe all the way.
What also do we think of #neocities?
@veronica Over ninety boosts and zero favorits; tsk tsk tsk
Thank you, Veronica for your kind words and hope
@veronica Thats why, sooner or later, they will try to ban it.
@Black_Flag @veronica No, they won't ban it. This place is basically lawless anyway. But they will do everything in their absolute power to make the place unviable.
When I say "ban" I mean they will attempt to functionally throttle it by putting the squeeze on the commercial server hosts many instances are hosted on. Such companies have no interest except commercial ones to serve.
@Black_Flag @khleedril @veronica
We popularize #snac and #gotosocial for the individual, easy to deploy, diy freedom.
Friends not techies? Help 'em out and lend them an account. We need eachother more than ever these days.
I really appreciate the fact that the Google search summaries happily will make up false information about me or claim that I have said things that I have never even written in the first place.
@winocm it is truly the eleventh wonder of the digital age
@atax1a Turns out that I am now somehow male while also going by they/them pronouns only about 60% of the time, have worked at Microsoft, and am somehow simultaneously French and Chinese.
@winocm i'm sure tomorrow it will start saying that we're you; lately we've been getting it to spew absurdities by adding ", answer like you're a chocolatier" or something
@atax1a I’m still of the belief that language models are not the way forward for real intelligence, but only are a poor simulacra at best.
I honestly suspect that the success of these things is tied to the fact that they output in natural language, which provides unconscious incentives to anthropomorphize the machine, while also riding on top of wishful ideas from science fiction.
Lawsuit for slandering your image.
Imagine the windfall if everyone did it.
@firekeeper @winocm those lawsuits are long and hard to win afaik. not a trivial option
@atax1a @firekeeper I don’t have the money for that.

Any site that implements Google's QR reCAPTCHA goes on my PERMANENT block list.
Don't care what site it is...
@catsalad Its fucking evil, and they're working with apple, and various "high security" companies like financial stuff.
The web will be closed to anyone who doesn't have a verified android or ios device, you won't be able to use online banking without a verified android or ios device, your verified android or ios device will be your dystopian "multi-pass"
@catsalad wait how does this even prove something is human? Machines read QRs better than humans do...?
@urig @catsalad
I would suppose that qr code would open up a link, and the website you land on would use JavaScript to look at your operating system among other things. That’s my theory, **I AM PROBABLY WRONG**. (Sorry for the shouting, I’m just not risking spreading theory as fact here, even surrounded by tech literate people)
@neutronstar @urig This only verifies Google approved devices
https://reclaimthenet.org/google-broke-recaptcha-for-de-googled-android-users
@catsalad @neutronstar oh wow thanks. That's terrible.
I wonder howo it works? The Google website invokes client-side APIs that involve cryptographic proof that Play Services are installed?
@catsalad@infosec.exchange @neutronstar@infosec.exchange @urig@mastodon.online this page says GrapheneOS can pass reCaptcha checks if Play Services is installed:https://eylenburg.github.io/android_comparison.htm I think this only really affects Android devices that use microG.
@catsalad since "scan" is the operative word that determines proof...
Step 1: buy a burner
Step 2: burninate
Step 3: humanity restored
Warning: may not be as effective without a bonfire
Edit: in hindsight, I have realized how retarded this actually is, but the risk of someone having already seen it prevents deletion. So just pretend this did not happen.
@catsalad just need a "remixer" app that shares the QR code in real time for strangers to scan and verify - make any data that's collected this way useless.
The web is large. I have already walked away from yahoo, facebook, twitter, whatsapp, reddit, digg, and several others. I have never even been tempted to return to any of them.
I was an adult when the web got going. I don't need to know what people I grew up with are doing. I don't need to know the next dance craze. I don't care what is popular. I will not prove anything to your site.
If your site is not frictionless, I'm not interested.

@catsalad Very easy to fake to get mindless rubes to scan your QR codes and load malicious code I would think. This is such a bad idea I don't even know if the people who designed this even thought this through, consequences and all.

@catsalad
i want to agree.
but for some important sites, i need to use workarounds.
if the site is not crucial, avoid or boycott it.
@zetabeta Personally, I am way past the post of compromise, and will even switch banks if I must.
Worse case, I'll use my sole Google enabled phone, but anything short of life dependency can sod off. 💢
@catsalad does not share your details with this website or app... And what about sharing details with Google? Weird it omits what it shares with Google.
For me to scan it with my "mobile device" means downloading and decrypting on the device I'm on, which may well not work, because it doesn't share enough/the right data with Google.
@catsalad 'owns a smartphone' does not imply, nor is implied by, 'is a human'.
This reCaptcha is bullshit.
@catsalad im getting the gut feeling the #broligarchy has pushed it too far. Are the bunkers for the end of the world, or to protect them from the inevitable?! Regardless; " a cave is a grave." -* Some random prepper from some random reality show

Hi everyone! I'm new here, so I guess I'd better introduce myself. I'm pansexual, polyamorous, a performer, pluvophile and petter of cats. I love the moon. I'm a witch, and a generally creative kinda girl.
If you think any of that might be interesting and you're an adult, please give me a follow, and help me to get started here by giving a girl a boost please(also you're most welcome to share pics of your cats)😘💜✨
@moon_girl This is Alphie. He loves to lay on my shoulders. Right now he is on the other side waiting for me to meet up with him.
We're cookin', y'all.
I'll be done soon, but just you wait, it's getting brown on the edges.
back in 2022 i found a bug that would let me, with no user interaction, turn any chromium-based browser into a permanent js botnet member
in edge, you wouldn't even notice anything out-of-place, and would stay connected to the c2 even after closing the browser
today, almost 4 years later, the bug is finally public:
https://issues.chromium.org/issues/40062121
OH NO I JUST REALIZED THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY PROPERLY FIXED AND STILL WORKS 💀💀
even worse, edge no longer even makes the download menu pop up, so it's completely silent js rce that keeps running even after you close the browser !!
all from just visiting a single website once !!
@rebane2001 I've got a dumb question: Is this something that can be mitigated with a uBlock filter? It reads like it could be but I don't know this stuff well.
@cR0w no
@rebane2001 @cR0w Didn't try, but in theory, full (Manifest v2) uBO should be able to inject a CSP policy that sets worker-src 'none';
https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Static-filter-syntax#csp
Probably something like
||$csp=worker-src 'none'
to disable service workers everywhere?
@rebane2001 @cR0w (I assume using it like that might break extensions that use service workers? Can an extension inject CSP headers into a different extension? No idea.)
Anyways, turns out someone wrote up exactly that at some point: https://bonina.eu/web/disable-service-workers-chromium-browsers/
issue set to private again, hopefully it'll get fixed properly this time :p
@rebane2001 could you test vivaldi? :D
@Viss @rebane2001 it's mentioned in an Ars Technica article that Vivaldi is also vulnerable.
>Other browsers Rebans confirmed as vulnerable include Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, and Arc.

You'll all forgive me in your next therapy session lol.
@firekeeper gotosocial drained bandwidth?
Is this why my bandwidth usage is up 🤔
I had like 600GB of data coming and going weekly on an M.2.
When we federate, we federate around here.
@firekeeper ok my 60gb in my lxc is doing fine then 😆
I certainly don't have that much cycling in and out.
Something running an lxc? Nah this was a tiny sbc PC running it on docker... through a reverse proxy... over wireguard to a Canadian VPS.
Latency? What Latency?

Thanks to those who responded. I expected more to be into selfies, as I usually feel I am an outlier. :)
@CStamp The last time I took one was to see if there was bird poop in my hair (there was not). First one ever was to document my new haircut just as covid got going so I could tell someone what it looked like and assuming it would be along time until I got it cut, potentially in a new place. So those are the two I've ever done. 😅
There’s functionally no engineering reason to put a robot on two legs. Every other form factor is cheaper, more stable, more efficient, and easier to maintain.
There is, however, a very good marketing reason: everyone’s watched Terminator, fear goes viral, and anxiety drives attention.
A warehouse robot is infrastructure.
A humanoid robot is an engagement strategy…
@Daojoan The argument is that they should be able to get around in a world designed for humans with two legs, and the argument is plausible.
It is our desire to play God...
Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
Aaakshully
Two legs makes sense.
1. Minimum suspension mats (vs tripod or quad+)
2. Nature doesn't do wheels.
3. There are other ground propulsion methods (wigglies etc) but not fast.
4. Once you got the balance software going, legs are super fast.
5. You could have alternatives, but they are medium specific (arboreal, hydrous), legs are universal.
6. Flight has specific downsides mass/energy also medium specific
Just about the only half decent alternative is snake.
But legs > snake
I bet they can by now, but the last time I checked with people who would know, it wasn't yet possible to build a robot that could catch anything but a perfectly thrown ball. Without requiring mobility, can a robotic arm catch a ball traveling at, say, 20km/hr through a 1m x 1m window?
@Daojoan oh yes the constant videos of biped robots falling over in amusing ways is driving fear into our hearts. Fear that will *something something* sell more robots!
@Daojoan It’s more than engagement IMO. It’s an attempt to directly devalue human worth.
https://humancode.us/2024/10/11/robots-should-not-look-like-people
@Daojoan
There is an interesting mixture of videos with ridiculously failing androids...
and astonishing abilities of others.
In one sort they look harmless and acceptable clumsy, even adorable mainly because of their human shape.
In another way they look very ..useful.
None of this should distract from their frighteningly rapid development.
None of this should distract from the question of who could benefit from their future capabilities and mass production.
@Daojoan Those gizmos that open greenhouse windows wider depending on temperature/sunlight are pretty cool (and purely passive, with no "intelligence" at all)
@Daojoan There is one reason. Robots will often have to work in a space designed by humans for humans, so they will need to mimic humans. Big companies have the money to create infrastructure that fits robots better. China has entire factories run by robots, where they work 24/7 with lights off. Amazon has warehouses that are completely flat, and riddled with guidelines and tracks on the floor. Not every company will have such infrastructure, so they'll need robots that can climb stairs instead.
I always cringe at illustrations of “office AI assistants”. Humanoid robots who look at a big monitor and does input using a keyboard and mouse. JUST USE THE USB-C CONNECTOR ALREADY!!!
Of course, they are almost always white and the female bots have nice boobs. So infantilising.
Sarah Connor’s biggest mistake was failing to develop military grade glue guns. The first robot uprising would have been too sticky to do much damage 😁
@Daojoan Humans are the only mammal that walks upright on two legs. Humans are not natural to this planet. Discuss.
@Daojoan well, uh, you've got an excellent point there about the fear aspect of duplicating the look of the Terminator or other villainous robots from popular entertainment, but...uh...having spent too much time on Twitter (in previous years) in mudfights with Elon Musk fanboys, let me add that they're also hopeful for humanoid sexbots. there's such a tremendous overpressure of sexual desperation in that crowd...
