                                                                  Just after Kaya's Truck pulled the Imaginarium over to load up for Black Rock City, a rainbow began to appear over the SL,UT.

                                                                  I felt the sky's blessing, manifest as this rainbow.

                                                                    Well, maybe this year Devon is not as green as it used to be. But it's still lovely.

                                                                        Happy ! This is a peak that dominated my horsepack trip last week— both logistically and aesthetically. From the beginning of the trip, its presence and beauty dominated the view. On Day 2, we traveled along its base up and over a pass. While camping at the base on the far side of the peak, I hiked up above the treeline to take this pic. I love this mountain!

                                                                          Here's a Vancouver Island marmot pup to start your week.

                                                                          Young animals are curious and sometimes they get closer to the camera to the delight of photographers. Note that I used a telephoto lens for this photo of a wild marmot in a subalpine meadow on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

                                                                            One of the European Bee Eaters I came across the other day. This is a juvenile, by the time it returns in Spring it will be as bright as it's parents. It's still beautiful even if it's not as bright as it's parents. Wishing all the birds safe migrations to their wintering grounds.

                                                                            Remember folks, they don't just eat bees, they don't decimate a beehive, they eat a mixture of insects. Just a badly named.

                                                                            A bird perched on a slim branch of a Pyrenean Oak tree, of which you can see a few leaves on the right side of the photo. The bird is quite large with a long black beak, a black eye stripe on a pale yellow face, with a redish/brown head. The body is pale blue underneath the wings. The wings are pale golden coloured wings and back.

Das Bild ist gekontert um einen Negativ zu simulieren, rechts wurde noch ein fancy Rand eines Filmstreifens eingefügt.

                                                                                      It’s currently dark, sunrise still an hour away, and it’s only 44F (6.6C) outside. That’s dangerously close to jingle bells.

                                                                                      I’ve been noticing changes in the mountains for a couple of weeks, but yesterday noticed leaves changing in town.

                                                                                        Black-and-white nature photograph built primarily from subtle transitions of grey, light, and shadow. At the center of the frame stands a dandelion seed head, its bright, almost luminous sphere clearly separated from the soft, blurred background. Slightly to the right rises a second, taller dandelion, already almost stripped of its seeds. Its darker, slender silhouette balances the composition, especially against the heavier, more shadowed left side of the image. A subtle relationship emerges between the two plants, as if they represented two different moments of the same cycle. The background is completely out of focus and almost abstract. Vertical traces of grasses and stems, together with patches of light and dark, form a soft, flowing structure that feels more like painterly texture than a literal fragment of a meadow. Thin plant forms rise through the darker areas, cutting across the luminous greys and giving the image a quiet visual rhythm. On the stem of the central dandelion, just below its fluffy seed head, a single detached seed has come to rest. With its delicate parachute-like filaments, it resembles a tiny star clinging to the stem. It is a small but deliberately preserved detail, one that reveals itself only after a moment and adds another, almost hidden point to the compositional play.

It's where judges sit, where moneylenders sat (before they opened their banks), and where your reserve players sit, waiting to join the game. I like to think of today as the August Bench Holiday...
