          Since the pandemic nyc has managed a lot more outdoor restaurant seating. With the summer in full bloom these umbrellas are necessary

          A color photo taken of Broadway between 25th and 26th St. several blocks around this area have been blocked off to cars. It makes the area much nicer. The bottom of the photo shows many tables with the traditional woven outside chairs that you often see in Europe. It's early so the tables are all still empty. In between the tables are four white and yellow striped umbrella/awnings. Behind that is a great number of bright green trees. The top half of the photo shows two thin giant skyscrapers shooting out from behind the trees on the left. A lower skyscraper is next to them in the middle of the photo. There's a very blue sky with a few white clouds lower down.

            New Zealand forests are just built different. I spent hours in this place among chest-high ferns, just taking it all in, letting nature do its thing while I watched with a camera & a huge smile on my face.

                  Another scorching day, so waited until the evening to go for my 48km ride – out before sunset, back after.

                  Of course, it wasn’t that much cooler even then, so it was a hot, sweaty one – it would have been much better to go out early in the day, soon after sunrise.

                  Watching the football last night was not compatible with that plan, however 🤷‍♂️

                        Went for a nice paddle today on a local lake. Perfect conditions— just enough wind to cool us off from the heat. The turtles were out in force taking in the sun on their logs around the entire perimeter. A very enjoyable experience!

From a fissured gray rock outcrop atop a mountain, we are looking out at a scene of mostly forest with a couple of clusters of buildings. A few tufts of tall grass grow through a few of the fissures in the rock. A forest of cedar and hardwoods rings the edge of the outcrop, but does not block the views. The flank of a nearby peak facing us has impressive rock cliffs. Beyond that is a narrow valley and several long, flattish-topped wooded ridges running along the horizon. A rounded knob to our left has a cluster of larger buildings on top.

It also has rusted metal mounts fastening the cannon barrel to a yellow painted wooden axle. On each side, the axle is supported by giant rusted metal wheels with yellow painted spokes. The cannon sits in a splash of sunlight. The old brick fort behind the cannon is hidden in shade. Oh, and about those gonads... those are metal, lidded tar buckets that used to hold grease to lubricate the wooden axle. They dangle from chains at the center of the axle. Long story but they remind me of my friend Florian.

                                                          From today. I’m now cleared to ride 30 minutes and the shade from this tree was my 15 minute resting spot. It's the first time since March because he couldn't make it to the next appointment due to his surgery. He got a blue bandana and is all clean...but he already lay down on the ground and walked through bushes...

                                                                            Das Foto ist eine Teleaufnahme und zeigt die Band Kraftwerk während des Konzerts am Karlsruher Schloss von 2023. Die vier Bandmitglieder stehen jeweils hinter T-förmigen Pulten, welche auf dem Balkon des Schlosses platziert wurden. Während des Konzerts wurde die Schlossfassade (von der man im Bild nur den Bereich mit dem Balkon sieht) mit einer Multimedia Video Projektion bespielt.

                                                                              Not a new fly, but the irst time I've seen one this year.

                                                                              It's a locust blowfly (Stomorhina lunata), which lacks a German name, although Augenstreifen-Schmeißfliege is used for obvious reasons.

                                                                              It's also a female – males have more saturated colours. Note the enormous mouth extension in one of the shots.

                                                                                Finally, a rather shonky macro stack of a small goldenrod crab spider (Misumena vatia; 🇩🇪 Veränderliche Krabbenspinne) with large ambition and a large appetite.

                                                                                It seems to have captured a hoverfly of some kind, a scene replicated all over the garden, as we have many predatory crab spiders about.

                                                                                A small green white spider guarding its prey, a much larger hoverfly with large red compound eyes and a brown and yellow body. They're both tucked into some lavender flowers. The macro stack isn't great – it's was late and there wasn't much light, plus the spider kept moving, presumably to shield its prey from theft.

                                                                                        First, a new one for me: I've seen several genus Eristalis drone fly species over the years, but never E. arbustorum, the Eurasian drone fly (🇩🇪 Kleine Bienenschwebfliege), with its distinctive white abdomen bands.

                                                                                        It's a female, btw.

                                                                                                    Hi, I'm a photographer who just moved in from Pixelfed!

                                                                                                    I've dabbled in most genres and had a short semi-professional stint, but in recent years I've settled on capturing the beauty of nature. I have developed a penchant for bad weather and less than ideal light - there's an abundance of both here.

                                                                                                    I'd describe my approach as "digital old school", meaning I try to get my images right in-camera.

                                                                                                    Hope to brighten (or sometimes darken) your days with my images.
