I use #XMPP and #jmpchat and you should too!

XMPP is my usual chosen protocol for chatting and sending encrypted messages to and from (usually myself, but my mom's there too!).

#Snikket is easy to install, but I use #prosody so I can have a bit more fun with plugins and client apps.

With jmp.chat, the fine folks at #Soprani will link a phone number to any XMPP account you own, folding your phone contacts in and routing calls and SMS/MMS messages through XMPP, so you can see them all on any device you have set up with a client.

Great, the XMPP introverts found a way to make it useful even without having anyone to talk to

Great day at #Fedicon yesterday. I met lots of new people from the #ActivityPub community. I've always thought that #XMPP and the #Fediverse are ideologically well-aligned, and that our developer communities should talk to each other more. In that regard, it was a big success.

*Unpopular opinions:*
The #Internet needs a "Great Reboot", IMHO, where:
- #Mastodon is the new IRC, X, Threads, Bluesky, LinkedIn, and Facebook
- #Deltachat is the new email and two-way email mailing list
- #RSS is the new one-way email mailing list
- static content generators (say, #Hugo, #Jekyll, etc) are the new web CMS'. No CDN, as they're so lightweight.
- #XMPP is the new #Discord - and no encryption is used in groups
- #Flarum is the new goto for a persisting, searchable support forum
- #Signal is for encrypted 1-to-1 chats and encrypted group chats (when none of the above suffice), as they get the encryption right in a very reliable way *for the group chat* (despite being a centralized service).

#Conversations_im is now available for free on Google Play until August 18th.

Whenever there is a conference with a strong #XMPP presence, I like to make the app available for free to make it easier for attendees to install the app and give XMPP a shot.

What's with writing notes? Don't you use a synced notebook on your mobilek spyware slave-tablet?

Well yes, I do, but my idea of note-taking on a phone is using #XMPP encrypted chats to myself. My shorthand notes are usually reminders and stuff for work.

You also can't hack a notepad.

Overall, Field Notes notepads don't jive with my Noodler's black as well as Moleskine notepads do... the paper bleeds a little, so I might go back to them. I needed to try the brand out tho after seeing them in Wes Anderson movies. The ink looks good and glides well, and the paper is thick, it just spreads a bit more than Moleskine and the fibers grab a little.

New version of ejabberd is out and fixes a security vulnerability. Amongst many other things my mod_invites got a good deal of improvements, a web-admin integration, a new reset password token and a page where users can create invites via web (if that’s allowed). Go get it while it’s hot!
