            I take my diary today, staring at blank pages which stare back at me. I know not what to write. Been a mixture of emotions of late. Sad one moment, lonely the next…feeling a bit lucky, not knowing for what …then feeling guilty, regrets and sorrow….and now lack of appetite for even food that I love so much. It all blends into a feeling of sickness, with symptoms that resembles no illness in particular. Sometimes the appetite to engage in any activity isn't there.             Been a mixture of emotions of late. Sad one moment, lonely the next…feeling a bit lucky, not knowing for what …then feeling guilty, regrets and sorrow….and now lack of appetite for even food that I love so much.

            It all blends into a feeling of sickness, with symptoms that resembles no illness in particular.

            Sometimes the appetite to engage in any activity isn’t there. Daily routines feels like running in sickening motions that I’m dying to stop.

            When I hear people going somewhere, I feel like following them, though I know not for what tangible purpose I should embark on a journey …yet when I stay back, I feel left behind, like staying at the back of a stage, blind to every action taking place on stage though I hear the noise and giggles, I have no idea what sense to make of the noise, and the reactions.

            Perhaps, I mustn’t think so much about the past, and whatever lessons they hold…there seems to be no end to the lessons of life. Perhaps the key is to just live whatever seems right in the moment and leave lessons and consequences to time to contemplate.

            I know not if this my feeling of being lost, feeling uncertain of where my life is headed, is part of the process of becoming an adult.

            I remember my haste when I was young, to be an adult one day, and live as I please. Here I am, not sure if I’m living, let alone as I please.

            Now I stare down, at the miserable kids, eager to throw away innocence, eager to grow up, and outgrow the beauty of their foolish ways.

            I long for that stage, where I find the balance to live as a child, with the wisdom of an adult as boundaries.

                                                          Well, this gets a little more complicated. I mean, the answer is unequivocally "yes", but you have to understand a few things.

                                                          The first is that searching for a thing which is meaningful is a form of art. "Found Art" is a thing. Then there's location scouting, appropriation art, moment photography, and readymades.

                                                          So, what an AI Art Prompter is doing is searching a high dimensional vector space for a virtual representation that has meaning to them.

                                                          It is not the act of prompting which makes it art, it is the meaning which the creator attributes to it that makes it art.

                                                            But the value of has never been and will never be in their technical skill.

                                                            Writing is not wordsmithing, and if writing were wordsmithing the fucking would be the bestselling of all time.

                                                            , except in the context of slop (get to this in a second), is just absolutely and objectively terrible.

                                                            I recently did some AI assisted writing and it wanted to put the phrase "a clear, unambiguous sign" fucking everywhere.

                                                            The worse part was, the more the phrase shows up, the more the AI is like "clearly I'm supposed to just keep writing that".

                                                            Structurally its stories are just completely vapid, it has no sense of timing. Like, yeah, there is absolutely no fear that anyone should have that AI can "churn out books" that anyone will be consuming at any kind of scale.

                                                                                          Now, here's the cover art of my chiptune rockfest "Chorale Ward vs. the Pseuno Army" (youtu.be/mSNto5MMhfY) by itself: the IBM Mode X tale of a genderfluid bat defending the musicians of Pleasant Sound from evil music-stealing robots!

                                                                                            While I was working I would occasionally treat myself to original Matt Beard paintings. When I met him most of his fans seemed to be surfers. The only thing he and I had in common was the art itself. Seeing the California coast through his eyes and talent brought me joy then as it does now.
                                                                                            When I was accumulating all of these paintings I had a huge office with walls. When I retired the paintings came home with me. Sometimes I feel guilty that they are closeted away here. I keep them on our walls because they are safer there. The earthquakes move them but they don't fall.
                                                                                            I'm not sure why I connect with this artist more than others. Why people do things and feel things is a mystery to me. Even when it's me I'm trying to understand.
                                                                                            I own dozens of all shapes and sizes and every one of them speaks to me.
                                                                                            I need to text Matt and tell him again how much I appreciate his talent.
                                                                                            It's been a minute since we talked.
