Productivity doesn't define your worth. #mentalhealth #selfcare #anticapitalism #eattherich #feedthepoor #activism

The voice in your head saying you're "not doing enough" isn't yours. It's inherited. It's been passed down from society/parental figures who implicitly taught us our worth is based on output & achievement.
Getting things done is great.
But it has nothing to do with your worth.

Fun fact: the Swiss cheese model was originally used to explain how disasters happen when multiple safety failures line up. Turns out that self-care works the same way, just aimed at protection instead of failure. Sleep alone won’t save you on a bad day, and neither will one boundary or one workout. However, if we stack enough imperfect layers together and the gaps stop lining up, the stress hopefully gets caught before it gets through to our psyche.

Shows coping techniques lined up as slices of Swiss cheese with stress at one end and a person at the other.

Some people have prayer, I have three hours, a pack of black and mild originals, an orange monster and a shade tree next to the car.

I never knew this due to willful ignorance, but b&m tobacco is literally an aromatic pipe blend. It's really mellow, and it hits like a pipe, all mouth, no inhale. It's like a hug in stick-form, but it has almost no backbone. It lacks "oomph", but right now, it'll do. I'm sure it's actually killing me and while I feel I grew out of the "self improvement by means of self destruction" phase of my youth, it still hits that note, even if it isn't with the same level of angst.

I feel like that meme of Hank Hill smoking a cigarette.

Waiting on the dog groomer's. It's a few hours. I need a few hours.

Mom is okay, still terminal, but okay for now. She's got more months than weeks to live, but the transition to home hospice has been testy. Still, I'm glad she's comfortable, safe and alive for the time being. I go back to work Sunday night. The RNs and CNAs kick in full-swing for her next week so I can back off a little.

I'm just gonna resonate with the universe for a good while. I wish I could pass out in a jacuzzi (with guaranteed breathing).

📰 Mental Exhaustion Can Change How You Make Decisions

🧠 Researchers found that cognitive fatigue can reduce motivation to take on challenging tasks, even when greater rewards are available. Mental exhaustion influences how the brain weighs effort against potential benefits.

📉 Feeling unmotivated after a demanding day may be your brain responding to fatigue rather than a lack of willpower.

👉 Understanding this can help us approach ourselves with more compassion and build in rest before important decisions.

I ain't dead, I'm surviving another petrol-state summer of burning love. It's late summer in North Carolina and that can only mean one thing, it's 90 out, humid as Satan's groin and it rains every thirty minutes.

Normally where I'd be taking off every weekend to peruse nature, I've been kicking it with some family lately, and having my pipe on my back porch instead of a log somewhere, but come fall, I will descend upon the changing leaves, and try to find you guys some cool NC mushrooms.

For now, I will be a bit more vocal about news and things online. Rest assured the fire continues.

                          Today something amazing happened…

I was driving home, listening to a bangin' record, with the windows and sunroof down, and it was cloudy and cool outside.

For like ten minutes I forgot about all the madness in the world, and my anxiety about my biopsy, and everything else. I was SO happy and hadn't even noticed for a minute. When I did, I forced myself to be completely present in that moment of bliss. Because it never happens. I forgot how that feels.

I'm realizing how infrequently this happens. Probably for most of us. Especially in our current timeline. If you catch yourself in a brief moment of bliss, hold it tightly and breathe it in. You'll thank yourself.

                          So, 3 good things:

                          1. Music
                          2. Cloudy skies

After going to a very crowded concert and being very overstimulated this week, I'm not sure how many spoons I'll have to go to events this weekend. I'm pretty sure that I'd rather go to a small rally on Sunday than a memorial for a relative on Saturday. Or I might just spend time in the garden. I'm done over-committing myself. first!

"The most beautiful body is the body that is most itself, that has refused every offer to be something smaller." — Mark Doty. The gardeners in Jebchit refused nothing; they only worked. The trans soldier refused to be made smaller, and a court finally agreed he didn't have to be. Both things, same Tuesday. The body that insists on being itself is the most dangerous thing a regime can meet.
