Pilot Mountain - The Failed 2nd Coming

One of my first ever big expeditions with a Camera was, against all good reason, was to climb the 3-4 miles to the top of Pilot Mountain - after working 10 hours that day.

Thursday, I had it in mind to come back to the mountain with fresh eyes and some experience.

Well... ehhh, I also didn't plan the timing of the day very well, as, as you can see, I don't have an actual photo of the mountain.

"Firekeeper, why do you not have pretty picture of Mountain?"

BECAUSE THE SUN WAS BEHIND IT!

Ughh, Charlie Brown. Well, I suppose my next visit to this splendiferous Mountain will be had at 7:00pm rather than 7:00am next round, but nonetheless, I did walk the top and grab shots as I went, and made the most of the morning mist down below, or as much as I could of it.

I took WAY more photos than I thought I did Thursday so these first four will be the first of eight to twelve from that trip. Right now, 8 seems more definite, so here's the first 4 that I've edited thus far.

    Today was a special day. As you can see, there's concrete in these photos. This is "The Jungle" as they say, full of apes, not squirrels, and this Jungle in particular, is downtown Statesville, NC.

    Why Statesville, plaid-clad camera-person?
    Because Statesville is the new location of my cousin's tattoo parlor, that just opened, and I got to photograph it!

    It's called "The Parlor", go on, go there, he's awesome.

    While those photos aren't public, Statesville very much is, so here's some photos I took yesterday of downtown.

    As usual, my goal isn't as much to document where I am like I'm trying to prove it exists to a speculative audience, I just took a few shots while I was there.

      And so, The Firekeeper was just out there, in Tanglewood, as he tends to be, taking photos of trees and plants and the like, walking about as he does...

      This is a very manecured place. It's part golf course to keep the Tesla and Corvette drivers busy and off of the highways during the day, but if you walk out far enough, you can still find some rustic rather untouched wilderness, my kinda stuff.

      I did end up walking out of the woods and finding Mallard lake right in front of me and beyond it, part of the golf course itself, but it was a pleasant surprise to walk out of the woods after half a mile of walking and "BEHOLD... LAKE".

      Oh yeah and happy first post on the new instance. Holla back y'all, my ego needs it.

                                      @skinnylatte I sadly didn't save the video, but a very angry, shirtless man was filmed from a car ripping down Pride flags outside an infant school here in England. The was reportedly arrested moments later and his house searched (presumably because he was already on police radar so his vandalism just gave them an excuse). He was done for drugs and firearms offences on top of the criminal damage.

                                                                                      Finished "Before they are Hanged" by Joe Abercrombie. Good middle-book. Lands a bit flat but carried well, well set up for the end. Starting Tad Williams's "The Dragonbone Chair" since I'm sunsetting Abercrombie's series in one more book.

                                                                                      It's um,... a bit jarring to go from cynical backstabbing to whimsical tale starring a young hopeful teenage lad, but rather than shun it for more hopeful and optimistic outlooks(which ain't happening), I'm trudging on with the hope it grows with maturity as the protagonist ages, if Simon even is the protagonist - NO SPOILERS.

                                                                                      On the backburner, and why I refuse to watch the film right now, is Andy Weir's "Hail Mary". I'm halfway done, but it keeps getting sidetracked by the fantasy novels... and...

                                                                                      Last night I read "Careless People..." by Sarah Wynn-Williams, in pseudo-entirety, a biography from a leading Facebook executive. I skipped a lot of info dumps I already knew from other sources, but a lot I did not know, especially anything pre-2016. I'm 38, but I wasn't politically "engaged" until around 2015.

This is "The Jungle" as they say, full of apes, not squirrels, and this Jungle in particular, is downtown Statesville, NC.

                                                                                                        Because Statesville is the new location of my cousin's tattoo parlor, that just opened, and I got to photograph it!

                                                                                                        It's called "The Parlor", go on, go there, he's awesome.

                                                                                                                                              Another look at the emerging summer garb. For folk who know, that is the tower from the water treatment facility next to East Point Park.

We can see a sand beach lining the shore of the lake. The trees are in various stages of emerging from the winter drabs. Some leafs have been unfurled, some trees are still only budding. Colours are various shades of yellows and greens. Behind them, we can see a tall smoke stack and off in the distance we can we signs of a city.

                                                                                                                                                  This is a very manecured place. It's part golf course to keep the Tesla and Corvette drivers busy and off of the highways during the day, but if you walk out far enough, you can still find some rustic rather untouched wilderness, my kinda stuff.

                                                                                                                                                  I did end up walking out of the woods and finding Mallard lake right in front of me and beyond it, part of the golf course itself, but it was a pleasant surprise to walk out of the woods after half a mile of walking and "BEHOLD... LAKE".

                                                                                                                                                                                          in edge, you wouldn't even notice anything out-of-place, and would stay connected to the c2 even after closing the browser
