this is the lovely & talented white-bellied woodstar adult male -- one of several woodstars, a group of tiny hummingbird species that move and kinda buzz like bees to intimidate the bigger hummingbirds to clear the path!!!

what you see pretty much everywhere you look at Tandayapa, it's a grainy "noisy" place to photograph because it's cloud / rain forest plus you're trying to capture moving hummingbirds at close range but what models you have to choose from!

here we have purple bibbed white tip, white-booted rackettail (both males) & i think blurry in the back is andean emerald

An extreme close-up on a stalk of red tube-like flowers similar to salvia (or maybe in fact salvia?). Hovering to feed on it is a glittering green hummingbird with a white eyespot and a purple "heart" -- the male purple-bibbed whitetip. A bit below him is a long-tailed hummingbird with puffy white "boots" covering his feet and his tongue already stuck out although he hasn't quite reached the flower yet -- the male white-booted rackettail. Almost right up behind him and a little bit blurred by being out of plane of focus of the other two is a somewhat sturdier looking hummingbird with a starkly white underside. Andean Emerald, probably... There was also a Brown-eared Violetear higher on this same flower but i had to crop birb out to make an internet-sized composition. Tandayapa, Ecuador.
