"In light of the dev silently blacklisting blahaj.zone, many of its users and several other instances, we have removed tesseract from the available lemmy front ends we offer."

Agreed, if people don't want to see certain content, it should be blocked by their account, as their choice. No authoritarian bullshit, please. It's why many of us are here.
Check your instances and blocklists, y'all.

My #PieFed server, feddit.online, sometime early this morning, got caught in an AI bot scraping storm. The server became completely unresponsive.
About 60% of the bot traffic came from Vietnam, 20% from Bangladesh, and the rest from multiple other countries. Claude was about 8% of the bot attack, even though my robots.txt explicitly tells Claude to go away. Anthropic is ignoring the robots.txt file.
It was like a feeding frenzy involving multiple AI bots (Claude, Petalbot, Meta bots, Tencent bots, and more) and some that were making requests designed to look like regular Chrome browser traffic.
I added several layers of firewall rules in Cloudflare. I began doing this about 11 hours ago. So far, Cloudflare has blocked 759,110 AI bot requests. Although receiving 403 (forbidden) errors, the bots continue relentlessly.
The PieFed server is running normally now since none of this bot traffic reaches it.
