That's a little over 10 minutes. Is that too much? Should I not care as long as the signature validates?

I’m working to get my Mastodon home timeline more manageable, so last night and this morning I looked at every post which I had zero interest in. Some are from folks I gladly follow, so no problem there — we won’t agree on all interests!

But other posts led me to:
- Set some folks so I don’t see their boosts. This doesn’t help for lists, but it’s good for my home timeline, and not everyone I follow is in a list.
- For folks who got boosted into my timeline: Muted some whose posts are fine but just of zero interest to me. Blocked a few folks, too.
- Unfollowed a few folks I had been following.

And I also added quite a few more hashtags to my filters.

And I already see how much nicer my home timeline is! I used to be a completionist and read through that entire timeline, but it got overloaded and I started relying on lists. Maybe with some attention I can go back to paying more attention to my home timeline.

I have decided to shut down my #mastodon instance, and all my public facing web services.

This will happen in 3 months time, on November 29, 2026, to allow everyone to backup and migrate.

The reason for this is that I can no longer trust:

- the #Linux kernel
- #Debian
- rails
- most #Foss projects

Additionally, I'm basically out of storage, it is unaffordable to purchase more, and no one is interested in donating to help.

Our bastion of free computing has been poisoned by fascist gen ai slop, and basically NONE of it can be trusted anymore.

It's impossible to vet slop from an ecosystem that is welcoming of it.

This makes it nearly impossible to update my systems, which makes it harder to pretend it's even remotely secure.

I'm fucking devestated - gutted by what has happened to computing, and I just do not have the resources to keep fighting.

Fuck all you #LLM boosters into the sun. May you learn the folly of your way and DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT!
