This is a landscape photo taken on an accessible path that passes through an urban wooded area. A tree, probably a Jacaranda, with lots of lovely purple flower clusters. The ground under the tree has a lot of petals from blooms that have fallen. The tree is in the front yard of a single-story home.

Yesterday, my husband and I still decided to go for a walk in the evening. It was still no dusk but we were followed by 8 cats! 7×🐈 1×🐈‍⬛This was a picture!

We just came down the street and then up and back.

This is a landscape photo taken in late Spring on a hiking trail in a mature forested area. The soil covered trail is fairly wide and flat in this section with a mix of trees and low level vegetation on both sides. "Across Alaska and Canada, Arctic and boreal regions are warming up to four times faster than the global average.

"That puts a huge amount of pressure on #ecosystems that have long helped slow climate change by pulling carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and storing it in #trees, #shrubs, and #soil.

When forests stop helping

"The trouble is, those ecosystems do not always stay helpful under stress.

"As wildfires grow more intense, drought becomes more common, and other disturbances spread, parts of the north may start giving #carbon back to the atmosphere instead of locking it away.

"Once that happens, the whole climate system becomes harder to stabilize.

"That is why scientists care so much about #biomass, the total amount of living plant material across these landscapes."

This is a very manecured place. It's part golf course to keep the Tesla and Corvette drivers busy and off of the highways during the day, but if you walk out far enough, you can still find some rustic rather untouched wilderness, my kinda stuff.

I did end up walking out of the woods and finding Mallard lake right in front of me and beyond it, part of the golf course itself, but it was a pleasant surprise to walk out of the woods after half a mile of walking and "BEHOLD... LAKE".

Oh yeah and happy first post on the new instance. Holla back y'all, my ego needs it.
