Yeah another video about life without Adobe and yes I did drop a mention for Dark Table in this one. But I spend more time talking about old cables you no longer need, so anyway... Here's 14 mins of "Life After Adobe" :)

LIFE AFTER ADOBE "The biggest fear people have about changing their editing software is not being able to go back and access all that work they have already put into the file. We're hanging onto the possibility of going back to our old edits, instead of looking forward to new possibilities."
Tuesday morning I went to check the 'cougar area'. I was walking slowly and quietly on a dirt trail, stopping every few metres, listening, watching, when I saw two identical birds bathing in the dirt. I couldn't identify them but they were shaped like Northern Flickers. It turns out that there are female Red-shafted Northern Flickers (photo on the left). I assumed male & female looked the same. Photo on the right: male for reference.

I let Kengo walk about the yard on his own. It's too hot to tag along...95f/35c.
It says a brief rain shortly, but I don't count on it.
Do you see a big white puppy in the sky?
One more day.

For #ThrowbackThursday: Tuesday, December 8th, 2008.
I have been racking my brain for the last 6 months, trying to figure out where I took this picture. I remember what I was doing (shooting wide open with a brand new 50mm lens)... and I remember I was facing south. But where? Was this San Francisco, or Asheville, or somewhere in the wine country?
I finally figured it out when I came across another picture snapped on the same day, at approximately the same time. This was taken in Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco.
Oh... one other stray thought while my coffee kicks in: I've noticed that almost every movie or show that Chris and I have streamed over the last 2-3 years has used the same cinematic color palette for every dark scene. It's either teal-and-orange or dark-green-and-orange, with inky blacks. Lovely color palettes for sure... but now so common that it is almost cliche.
Anyway, here is a picture with orange and brown, with a bit of blue fringe. It's slightly different.
Peanut Heist
I sat and watched this red bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) fly back and forth between a bird feeder hanging from my fence and an oak tree in my backyard. While at the bird feeder, he would dig through the bird seed until he found a peanut then fly away. I tried several times to catch him in the act of flying away, most only caught part of him in the frame. This is one of two in which I had him all in the frame
making off with a peanut.
Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

Steam engine whistle maintenance is probably the most important maintenance task in a railway shop. A steam engine isn't a steam engine without a steam whistle, right?

If you have an iPhone take a look at the Spectre app. You can have a lot of fun with long exposures. Clever tech lets you hand hold 3~30 second shots.
They also make the marvelous Halide app.
