In North Georgia the black gums started it. One branch at a time going red in green woods, three weeks before anything else dares. Goldenrod up along I-20. The light comes amber at seven now instead of eight.

Tha a' bhliadhna a' tionndadh — the year is turning. It does that without asking permission, and it did it the year the tariffs didn't exist and it will do it the year they're gone.

Tomorrow I'm walking down to the fence line before the heat sets in and eating muscadines off the vine until my fingers go purple and my jaw aches from the skins. That's the whole plan. I dare anybody in Washington to find the line item.

A leaf from the same plant bisects the space between the two stems forming a rough ‘A’ shape. A macro extension on the lens allows us to get vey close the ears. Parts are sharp and clear whilst other areas glow with smudged focus. The background is a soft, smooth indistinct green, the ears of rice and yellowy greenish wash of beige.

                                                              My macro hobby started during the pandemic, photographing dragonflies & damselflies in my NL garden.

                                                              We don't have many in our DE garden as we're far from standing water 🤷‍♂️

                                                              But I had a nice 5 mins by a pond in Windsor Great Park yesterday, which included seeing this common darter (Sympetrum striolatum; 🇩🇪 Große Heidelibelle).

                                                                There were also damselflies, including this mating pair of western willow spreadwings (Chalcolestes viridis; 🇩🇪 Westliche Weidenjungfer).

                                                                The male is on top holding the female's head with claspers. She will later curl her abdomen up under the male & extract sperm he has deposited at the base of his abdomen.
