      Although it is Caturday, I don’t have a cat. But I did encounter this turtle laying eggs next to the launch site when I went canoeing earlier this week. The turtle continued to do her business while I prepared the canoe for the water. When I returned from canoeing, the turtle was gone and the hole was covered back up with dirt. Saw a few other similar holes nearby, so this must be a regular site for laying eggs.#wildlife

        The rain returned during my hike on Thursday. It comes and goes, and varies between drizzle and a strong rain.

        More of the same is forecasted.

        The rain we’ve had for months is transforming everything.

        This is a dry climate. I wouldn’t know it in places.

              Here is a pic from my hike up to the ridge last month in the Presidential Range, White Mountains, NH. Above the tree line, there were significant fields of boulders and the "trail" was marked by cairns like this. I'm planning another trip to the ridge for sometime next month, but approaching from the other side of the ridge (east side). And, yes, more boulders!!

                      Went canoeing today on a river north of Boston. Very pleasant, ideal conditions. Saw a nice mix of turtles, swans and their cygnets, a heron, and expansive areas of flowering lily pads. So much nature to enjoy in spite of the river winding through neighborhoods!

                                I hope I never take my landscape for granted. Even when focused on the foreground, the forest and mountains make their presence known.

                                For those who aren’t so fortunate, I want that to always be the case. I know what it is to have nature at a distance.

                                  a very large boulder with a tree growing almost entirely over the top of it, its roots spreading over the surface reaching for nourishment, and a little bit down the left side to find dirt; when trying to come up with a funny caption, I was reaching for something along the lines about "wrestling into submission", but my partner noticed a face in the rock that I had not seen, which made me think he's happy to be wearing this tree as a hat at a stylish angle.

                                          To think that days after I landed in I fell ill, ruining my chances of hiking and exploring this area more - Instead, I had a few hours of proper energy each day where I could explore safely away from others, and not feel like death.

                                          This is one of the only frames I got of the area as a result - but wow do I love it. Would love to return some day!

                                                    Adventures of a tiny white gummy bear. When you're a springtail this smol, microfungi are perfect drinking vessels, and slime mold sporangia are towering trees.

                                                    I've not been out with my camera much lately; with parenthood, work and book edits taking up all my time. But I hope to pick back up with the macrophotography very soon! New Zealand's hidden soil treasures await discovery!
