    Another day, another adventure here in Colorado. Today, we took a very scenic walk along a river that flowed through a canyon. We began at the northern terminus of the Colorado Trail and walked several miles in. This section of trail is a dirt road— lots of cyclists riding their gravel bikes! Saw a number of bighorn sheep along the way.

As is often the case, fog had enveloped the lake and surrounding area until the sun was strong enough to cut through creating an ephemeral and ethereal light. Deciduous trees stand near the edge of the western shore on the right, leading to the dam. The head of an ancient ridge stands in the distance in the middle of the frame. Fog shrouds the trees along the south shore on the left. Some of the fog continues to rise into a clear blue sky overhead. Most of the scene is reflected onto the lake surface except for where the fog lingers over the water preventing a mirrored image.

        Well, this was a first. Today, I went fly fishing for the first time ever! I had a lesson from a family member (left) who has lived here and fly fished his entire life. I also spent a lot of time watching the “master” at work. No outdoor adventure is complete without a dog (owned by the family member) who has accompanied him on fishing adventures since being a pup. A fun day!

                    Life has been busy this summer - while failing to sleep last night I realized it's been over 6months since I've last been backpacking... I've not back country camped for this long since before I was 20.

                    I'm quite positive at the moment, that the state of my mental health out life outlook are directly correlated to this fact. Here's hoping I can sneak out for a weekend at the end of this month 🤞

                      There’s areas of the Aussie alps I’ve been itching to do justice to

                      Over a few trips I’ve waited for the sunset for the sunlight to hit the mountain range only for it to get taken out by low cloud

                      This time was different - again waiting for the sun to set, but unlike before a gap on the horizon broke & let the sun through, making wherever it hit glow giving us a couple mins of good light.

                                          The final descent down the mountain and below the treeline in last month's hike involved a trail with variable types of footing. Mostly steep and covered with large boulders with occasional "ledgy" sections with small ledges, 3-5 feet high (~1+ m), that had to be climbed down (including a ladder on a big ledge!). But also some short sections where the trail leveled off and was boggy. An easy, fun descent!

                                                    The sky was cloud-crazy on the way home yesterday. The sky was covered with thin rippling clouds and then I saw this one huge fluffster cloud just hanging out all by its lonesome over a hill. I don't know why but I was very taken with it.

                                                      Good day!

                                                      Oh yes, the color has begun in the mountains.

                                                      It was strange, though. I know it was a Tuesday, but Blue Mountain is a popular place, and this is tourist season.

                                                      Yet, I saw few people. In fact, driving to the trailhead and back, there was minimal traffic.

                                                      Be everwell.

                                                        Hochkalter mit Blaueis for

                                                        This is the Hochkalter massif with Blaueis (German for "blue ice"), the northernmost glacier of the alps, in Bavaria, Germany.

                                                        It never was a big glacier; estimated to be ~25 hectares in 1820. Only ~5.2 hectares remained in 2018. It's surely even less nowadays. The photo is from July 2009.

                                                          Today's #PhotoSuggestion is for the theme "poetic." This immediately brought to mind the verse: "Trees on the right, trees on the left,
                                                          and spaces in between, of nothing bereft." A quick bit of research taught me that this is by Kurt Tucholsky, who also references a stream in the full poem. I can't deliver that stream in this specific photo, but right behind these trees, the Leine river is flowing.
