Enjoying a peaceful moment to themselves. Humans aren't the only ones who enjoy a spot of tea now and again. Little monsters have been know to slip quietly into kitchens when no one is around and sneak a sip of two of freshly brewed sweetness.                     Here’s a fantastic example of a nurse log. An old tree fell and several full size newer trees have grown up from it.

The recently set sun is painting the sky near and along the horizon vivid orange and casting a bright golden sunlight off the bottoms of many of the clouds.

                                          Maybe the most iconic bamboo in the world, my partner and I decided to succumb to the tourist classic and visited this iconic location. I'm not sure it's as glamorous as online sites make it appear - but, it certainly is still beautiful.

                                          Towering bamboo stalks crowd a winding path through the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, their cool blue-green columns creating a dense, otherworldly natural tunnel.

                                              July 20, 1983, 43 years ago today: The remainder of the trail over Peters Mountain was much like the last few miles of hiking yesterday. The rocks continued to be tolerable. There were but a few exceptionally bad stretches. Thus far, only about twenty-five percent of the trail since the Cumberland Valley has been particularly rocky.

                                              We are looking out from atop a mountain over the treetops on the mountainside towards the valley hundreds of feet below. The valley is rather flat farm country, with several small villages visible. The rest is farm fields with a few patches of forest. Several long, low, flat-topped ridges rise along the far horizon. Glimpses of a major river winding down through those hills. It is a whitish summertime sky, mostly clear with a few small clouds. Distant views are hazy.

Im Hintergrund und an den Seiten sind weitere, teils grünliche und teils gelb blühende oder herbstlich gefärbte Sträucher und Büsche zu erkennen, die das Bild harmonisch einrahmen. Das Licht wirkt weich und diffus, wodurch die Farben des gelben Laubs und des grünen Mooses besonders kräftig und lebendig hervorstechen.

From a fissured gray rock outcrop atop a mountain, we are looking out at a scene of mostly forest with a couple of clusters of buildings. A few tufts of tall grass grow through a few of the fissures in the rock. A forest of cedar and hardwoods rings the edge of the outcrop, but does not block the views. The flank of a nearby peak facing us has impressive rock cliffs. Beyond that is a narrow valley and several long, flattish-topped wooded ridges running along the horizon. A rounded knob to our left has a cluster of larger buildings on top.

                                                              That was many years ago on a New Year’s Day walk. Unfortunately, you don’t always get lighting like that. I’m very glad there weren’t any tourists in the way.

                                                              I’ve just been clicking through lots of photos in my collection again. Lost places, lonely mountains, narrow streets in big cities... I realised that I’m actually always off the beaten track. In that case, I might as well send a photo from home. And here we are now ;-).
