        “Mountains, Morning Light” — Morning light, mist and clouds on Beinn Dearg, Isle of Skye.

        As a person who has spent a lifetime exploring California’s High Sierra Nevada, I have seen a lot of rugged, alpine scenes. “My” mountains typically require me to climb to near or above 10,000′ to see scenes like this. But here in Scotland, on the Isle of Skye specifically, the mountains rise from essentially sea level.                               This little cascade was in a truly magical location, and not one a person would associate with Montana.

                              No big mountain, no sweeping vista. Instead, a tiny stream in a narrow gulch. I doubt there’s anyone local who knows this exists.

                              But now you know.

                                      A thriving community of wolf lichen on a Ponderosa Pine near the top of Hayes Point.

                                      For some reason, I always feel like I should be able to hear these little guys chattering. Maybe it’s because they look like they’re having a good time.

                                        Here is the view looking back toward the ridge and summit I had hiked up to last month in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, NH. At this point, I was traversing along a contour of the cone of the highest summit before I looped back down to the trailhead. Looking forward to returning to this ridge real soon!

                                          In just the last few days, we’ve exceeded our normal amount of moisture for June.

Die Bewegung des fließendes Wassers und die Reflexionen der Bäume und Büsche vom Ufer sorgen für spannende Effekte im Wasser, die durch die längere Belichtung wie gemalt wirken. Die Farben sind grünlich-bläulich und etwas Braun. In a small stream, boulders and a tree trunk dam up the water. The movement of the flowing water and the reflections of the trees and bushes on the bank create fascinating effects in the water, which appear almost painted thanks to the longer exposure. The colours are greenish-bluish with a hint of brown.

                                                by Andy Rouse "I never use flash with hummingbirds - this is a deliberate choice for lots of reasons, but one of them is that it allows me complete creative choice as to the shutter speed. Here the shutter speed was about 1/500 seconds, this is fast enough to get the body sharp, but slow enough to really blur the wings and give some shape. Had I of used a faster shutter speed - say 1/1000th the wings would have looked more frozen in space and a completely different effect achieved."
