                      You know what really complicated and terrifyingly relevant novel I am suddenly thinking about? Cyteen by C. J. Cherryh. There's shifty genetic scientists setting up a space colony all on their own so they can practice their trade upon their own families in peace (they're altogether too reminiscent of the Einzberns from Fate/Zero &c.) and a plot involving an attempt to bring up a clone of a genius with a childhood as much like that of the original scientist, with similar traumas and crises.

                      They'd tried to duplicate their forbidding matriarch before but the clone rebelled and went into music instead, as I recall. The novel describes their second attempt. Anyone read Cyteen?
