                I think of this as, “Approaching The Shire.”

                It really looked like this thanks to the right lighting, moisture seepage, the haze, and the heat drying out the ground farther down.

                We’re transitioning to arid summer, and this is the result.

                Be everwell.

                The image looks down a grassy slope from the shade of trees. Dark grass gives way to bright green to dull green to a mix of green and gold to simply gold. At that point, the land rolls and there’s pine forest, a low, rocky mound in the background. Beyond the mound is a hazy valley and the hint of mountains. The sky is a pale blue and white.

                  Had a great day of hiking in the White Mountains, NH yesterday! Climbed up a steep ravine (upper left), then hiked along the ridge to a high point (jagged peaks in upper right) before looping back down. Winds (and freezing wind chill) were as advertised— clocked at average of 45 mph (72 km/h) at closest summit. Wore lots of layers and full wind suit and was just fine. More pics to come!

                    Stumbled upon an amazing little creature today at Paxton Pits. I have never seen one in my life before. When I saw it, I thought it was a mouse based on its small size (about 20cm). But this is a Least Weasel (or just Weasel in the UK). Its our smallest carnivore.

                        A Great Spangled Fritillary.

                        I have a long history of trying to take a butterfly’s picture at the moment it takes off.

                        This one did the same.

                        What was different was that it kept landing just ahead. So, I chased it down the trail.

                        Be everwell.

                                    Getting excited about hiking up this mountain again later this week. Been waiting for a good weather window. Here is a view from my hike in May after a long scramble up a steep slab of rock in a ravine. The weather is predicted to clear later this week, allowing me to go up the other side of the ridge. Same mountain, different ravine, new fun. Can't wait!

                                        Yesterday's evening walk... It's been a great week for cloud spotting, but with dozens of storm cells & hail moving through the area all week...

                                        (Also thinking about the connotation to wildfires raging in Canada... 😢)
