                              Every day when the sun begins to set, our local crow and rook population comes together for a social gathering on the nearby fields. During daytime, they forage there for food in smaller numbers. But in the evening they just hang around doing absolutely nothing except softly murmuring to each other. It's the most wholesome thing to watch. After about 30 minutes, a small group decides to leave, and within a few moments everyone follows to return to their home trees. And, amazingly, while they're very vocal most of the time, no one says a word on this last flight of the day. Horizontal image of a city skyline at sunset, at the bottom of the frame.                                       The smoke largely cleared out last night (for now) and there’s a chance of rain.

                                      I had a restless night with tortured dreams that are lingering on the edge of conscious thought, like something important I must recover.

                                      The view looks down a succession of deep green, wooded mountain shoulders to a valley cloaked in haze, the mountains stretching into the distance barely visible as they poke up out of the smoke. The sky above the smoke is clear.

                                              The Great Horned Owls that we have here provide a lovely hoo-hooo hoot soundtrack in the night... except when it's summer hoo-hooo hoot and one is perched in a nearby tree hoo-hooo hoot and you sleep with the window open hoo-hooo hoot and they do their hoo-hooo hoot in irregular intervals hoo-hooo hoot and it's 3:30 a.m. and it's hoo-hooo hoot and it penetrates your earplugs hoo-hooo hoot and there's another hoo-hooo hoot please fly away to a different tree hoo-hooo hoot I just want to SLEEP. 🫩

                                                        Life has been busy this summer - while failing to sleep last night I realized it's been over 6months since I've last been backpacking... I've not back country camped for this long since before I was 20.

                                                        I'm quite positive at the moment, that the state of my mental health out life outlook are directly correlated to this fact. Here's hoping I can sneak out for a weekend at the end of this month 🤞
