Amazing
Eight years and one month ago, a Master of Fine Art student at the University of Hertfordshire fitted a beer can with photographic paper and created a low-tech pinhole camera. She then placed the can on a telescope at the university's Bayfordbury Observatory and eventually forgot about the project.

If you have a bug zapper up, it's time to take it down.
A University of Delaware study analyzed nearly 14,000 insects killed by zappers over one summer. Mosquitoes accounted for less than 1%. The other 99%? Moths, beetles, midges, fireflies, and other beneficial insects.
It's even worse than it sounds: mosquitoes find you by carbon dioxide, body heat, and skin chemistry. Your zapper is completely invisible to them.
Meanwhile it's running all night massacring the pollination night shift.

Northerly wind, cool night, blue sky today, fresh air!
A butterfly photo hike yielded so many butterflies, like this pretty Acadian Hairstreak (Satyricum acadia).
A rich fossil site in China is filling in the little-known transitional details of life before the Cambrian explosion.
It documents the emergence of bilateral symmetry & pushes back the origin of the ancestors of all modern vertebrates.

‘Into the Wild’: A meta-synthesis of talking therapy in natural outdoor spaces
This Meta-synthesis highlights the benefits of holding therapy sessions in #nature, which can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance emotional well-being. While outdoor therapy offers unique advantages, such as greater openness and connection with nature, it also requires careful consideration of client suitability and professional training.
"Summary:
This article explores the benefits of conducting talking therapy in natural outdoor settings, which can reduce stress and improve mood. By integrating therapy with nature, practitioners enhance emotional well-being and encourage open expression. A review of 38 studies involving 322 practitioners and 163 clients outlines best practices and techniques.
Outdoor therapy ranges from using nature as a calming backdrop to actively incorporating the environment into sessions. While challenges like client suitability and professional training exist, the study highlights its growing potential in mental health care. However, a few limitations were identified such as potential distractions, lack of privacy, and lack of control around weather conditions."

Research - “Connecting people and the Earth”: the occupational experience of people with different capabilities participating in an #inclusive horticultural social enterprise
"This thesis examines how a #gardening-based social enterprise helps people of all abilities by providing #MeaningfulWork, #SocialConnections, and a #Sense fBelonging. While it highlights the benefits of inclusion and community participation, it also points out challenges like funding and governance that need to be addressed for long-term success.
“This thesis explores how an inclusive horticultural social enterprise supports individuals with diverse abilities by providing meaningful work, social connections, and engagement with #nature. Using participatory action research and ethnographic methods, the study examines themes of inclusion, choice, and community participation. Findings highlight both the benefits and challenges of such initiatives, including governance issues and the need to balance social care with financial #sustainability.
"The research suggests that #GreenCare social enterprises can help address social exclusion by reducing barriers to participation and fostering #resilience. However, structural and policy changes are necessary to fully integrate these initiatives into broader social and health care systems. The study advocates for more inclusive, community-based approaches that empower individuals while maintaining ethical and environmental sustainability.”
