Yes, #AI is used to abuse/weaken people and #society in countless ways, and is likely to lead to ever more catastrophic consequences, but it's consumption and destruction of old #books is pretty low on these scales.

As print has migrated to digital content, the monetary value and collect-ability of books has significantly dropped. Physical #recycling is the best option for many, so it isn't surprising that their ideas are also being recycled. #paper #environment #literature #reading

Reading Report

Earlier today I finished Andre Schwarz-Bart's debut novel 'The Last of the Just'. Originally written in French under the title 'Le Dernier des Justes'.

Born in 1928 Schwarz-Bart was a French writer of Polish - Jewish ancestry and joined the French resistance at the age of fifteen. He passed away in 2006.

The novel charts the fictional history of the Levy family from 12th century York until its end in the 20th century in Auschwitz. Intertwined throughout the story is the religious concept of the 'Lamed Vav'. The 'Lamed Vav' are thirty-six righteous individuals in every generation who justify the purpose of humanity in the eyes of God.

One such 'Lamed Vav' is Ernie a member of the Levy family whose life and end in the Auschwitz camp are recorded in the novel.

📚 My book review of The AI Con

The authors make a very clear argument against all merit of the current Media extrusion machines being peddled by Silicon Valley. The book lays it all out in all the details. Unfortunately it's not helpful in giving tools how to fight back, although that is to be expected. I higly recommend slapping the leadership of your organisation in the face with this book, or at the very least make them read it.
