        This is a simple black and white wildlife photo of a bird of prey soaring over an out of view harbour with a hazy, distant high-rise cityscape behind. Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong (2012). Very slightly to the left of centre is our large Hawk or Buzzard like bird of prey. The bird is in-flight from left to right, banking (turning) to the right and viewed from the side at a distance of about ten metres. The birds wing span fills less than a quarter of the height of the photo. The broad, dark and mottled wings are fully extended with finger-like feathers on the wing tips spread out.             Another workweek is in full throttle and that means it’s time for another #MountainMonday snap shot. This time around, from one of my favourite winter hikes in the island: Pico de las Nieves. The highest point of Gran Canaria (1947m), it provides some stunning views of massive pine trees forests with rocks scattered all over the place, intense blue skies and the Atlantic Ocean in the horizon. Oooh, and a balmy 22C during winter time, making it perfect for a moderate hike with breathtaking landscapes to be wowed by like this one 🥰👍🏻

              My head’s coming together slowly this morning. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment in an hour and was going to skip the coffee, but let’s be honest — I need it if I’m going to get moving. It’s fine; the doc told me coffee before labs is okay. Still, I always feel like I’m trying to pass a test.

              I finished my latest read last night. It’s a book I normally wouldn’t have picked up, but one of my granddaughters sent it to me, so I gave it a shot — and it turned out to be surprisingly good. The book is Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman, a New York Times bestseller.

              The story feels like a cross between TRON, The Wizard of Oz, and War of the Worlds. It’s this wild blend of fantasy, science fiction, horror, and comedy. The main characters are a guy named Carl — as you might guess — and a talking show cat named Princess Doughnut.

              One early morning after midnight, the two are thrown into chaos when aliens invade Earth. The survivors who manage to get underground are dropped into a kind of living video game the aliens call the Dungeon. Their goal is always the same: fight their way to the next level by battling monsters, earning tools, gold, skills, and whatever else might help them survive — if they can even find the way down.

              I know, it sounds like a mess on the surface, something that shouldn’t work at all, but Dinniman somehow pulls it off. It’s a series, and I’m thinking about picking up the next book to see what happens next.

The paddy looks like a frayed piece of cloth at the point nearest the viewer as the gaps between rice plants widen and catch the clouds above.

The photo is taken downstream of falls at the water’s edge. This is one of the falls in the Glen Ellis Falls, White Mountains, NH. It is upstream of the larger falls. I took this photo last week during my trip to the White Mountains.

                                                                                Ouroborus was looking magnificent when I popped over to the NGA on a perfect early winter's day this week. Few folk were about so it was easy to wander around, pause & enjoy the moment.

                                                                                  A single iris flower, showcasing its intricate, symmetrical structure against a softly blurred background. There are three large, teardrop-shaped outer petals that drape downwards and outwards. They feature a pale, icy-lavender base color, heavily veined with fine, radiating dark purple lines that draw the eye toward the center. At the base of each of these petals, there is a vibrant, bright yellow signal. At the core of the flower are three smaller, upright, tongue-like petals. These are a rich, velvety magenta or deep purple color, providing a bold contrast to the lighter outer petals. A softer, pale lavender petal-like structure folds gently over the very center of the bloom.
