The Monday blues. Is there a better summer flower than the hydrangea?

Backyard beauty.
The magenta flowers of the American Vetch (Vicia americana), a native legume.

One of my favourite plants is Dianthus carthusianorum. It has such a vibrant colour and fits in very well with naturalistic planting. It is drought-resistant and easy to grow from seed. It also self-seeds. Here I grow it with Hypericum perforatum, Anthemis tinctoria, Digitalis ferruginea and grasses such as Melica ciliata and Stipa gigantea. #plants #flowers
"This bud of love, by summer’s ripening breath,
May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet."

Some cool garden things: the other day I was looking out the window and thought, oh, the rosemary is flowering so much, and such a dark purple, I wonder why... and then I realised it's because one of the vines I planted on the bones of the lawn has climbed up into the rosemary and is flowering. So there are two kinds of purple flowers together and it's delightful 🥰
The other thing is that the sheoak I planted a few years ago is flowering for the first time and the flowers are so pretty, and also kind of weird. They appear on the branches rather than on the leaves. Which is probably not that weird because sheoaks don't really have leaves, they have needles. They're also not oaks.
Anyway. Yay flowers and new things to be noticed!
Black mullein (Verbascum nigrum) is starting to flower on the allotment together with the Viper`s bugloss (Echium vulgare), both give some useful height in the borders and are very drought-resistant. Both self-seed easily and are loved by pollinators. Verbascum nigrum is also the food plant of the rare Striped Lychnis moth which I have recorded on my allotment. #plants #flowers #allotment

Hop clover (Medicago lupulina), from the Wiley Trails:
(This is a closeup with the macro lens-- the flower heads are quite tiny, the smallest of any clover species in this area.)
Much cooler today, but it's raining. We had to wait inside until the rain let up. But he wasn't much interested in outside other than doing his business.
