In the second picture I believe that’s a clutch of eggs at the bottom. I didn’t really notice it when I shot this. I revisited it and will post a better picture of just that sometime in the coming days. Also this moth has an orange abdomen but you have to pester the moth to get it to show, so I didn’t do that.

The central disc is packed with numerous tiny, golden-yellow tubular florets, creating a textured, slightly fuzzy-looking core.

The background consists of out-of-focus green leaves and stems, which makes the brightly colored flower pop dramatically.

                                                  It's lets celebrate today!

On this multi-day backpacking trip we had maybe 6hrs of sunlight over a full week as the late summer storms hit us every day. This was one of the fleeting moments of brilliant light that pierced through the rain clouds. An absolutely breathtaking moment.

A dense foreground of low tundra shrubs in yellow and green autumn colour sweeps toward a dramatic wall of dark, jagged peaks under a turbulent storm sky, with shafts of light breaking through the cloud cover and illuminating sections of the rock faces and the valley between the summits. A massive sheer cliff face dominates the left side of the frame, while rain or mist visibly falls through the gap between the peaks in the middle distance.

Here’s a “bonus” pic from after yesterday’s paddle. Beginning the walk up the road to the parking lot where my car is parked. The smile is genuine— just finished a nice time on the water. Also enjoying the benefits of my exercise routine— as part of my exercises at home, I do “canoe squats” (squats with the canoe on my shoulders) to keep me in shape for portaging the canoe.

Photo of me carrying green canoe (upside down) on my shoulders. I am walking on a dirt road. The lake that I canoed on is seen behind me through the trees.

                                                        NEWLY PUBLISHED BOOK TO READ

My latest book - THE WILD - takes the view that "anarchy", often extrapolated in and through the historical, socially-derived politics of anarchism, should instead be characterized on a naturalistic and queer basis as "the wild" (in much the same way as Kropotkin observed nature and came up with the principle of "mutual aid" in fact).

Through thirteen chapters this idea is then teased out, explained and extrapolated as something both ethical and political that is contrary to patriarchal, capitalist, industrial and technological human civilization as it has developed.

As such, this book is both a call to the wild (and to the truth and reality of the wild) and to the assertion that in feralness there is an authenticity of the mutual co-existence of all things to be found.

The book can be downloaded FOR FREE from the link below in multiple formats or read online. It can also be read to you via text to speech on that page.
