      All my hollyhocks (Alcea rosea) are self-sown and flower colours vary every year. I really like this dark pink hollyhock, my favourite hollyhock colour this year, it is really glowing, and the plant is less tall so much sturdier.

            A black and white cat is rolling himself into a medium to large self made cement pot that stands infront of a huge window on the indoor side of a room and sleeps. He rests his head on one paw that he put against the wall of the pot. Beside on the left is a similar but empty cement pot. Outdoors are some other pots to see. The slide glass door on the right side is open. The sun comes in and paint 3 stripes on the scene and floor.

Outside waits a mostly white thin calico cat that the door will be opened. A wooden heart on a steel stick lays flat on the concrete beside her on the left side. It has knocked down by the strong Irish wind that comes directly from the opposite laying sea. Some green flower pots are around - inside and outside. A small round solar cell lays on the ground inside besides a small hand shovel. Out of the cell comes a thin cable with light led's in a row that shines colourful. The led's and the cable are building together a vertical infinity sign that is mirroring with the pane as if the little bulbs would go on on the outside in curves.                                                 Any help identifying this mystery shrub that maybe volunteered in my garden? Apple’s plant ID has called it everything from nightshade to buttonbush. It’s quite large, perhaps 8 feet tall by 10 feet wide, but not bushy. And for scale, that biggest leaf is about 10 inches long. Zone 7A

                                                        This is the view up the allotment for the end of June. What a difference since my end of May post! The garlic has been dried and hung up at home and the onions are beginning to fill out. We are now cropping broad beans, peas, blackcurrants, gooseberries, courgettes and the  first of the potatoes. And we pick a bunch of those heavily-scented sweet pea flowers every time we visit.

                                                                  One of my favourite plants is Dianthus carthusianorum. It has such a vibrant colour and fits in very well with naturalistic planting. It is drought-resistant and easy to grow from seed. It also self-seeds. Here I grow it with Hypericum perforatum, Anthemis tinctoria, Digitalis ferruginea and grasses such as Melica ciliata and Stipa gigantea.

                                                                          Black mullein (Verbascum nigrum) is starting to flower on the allotment together with the Viper`s bugloss (Echium vulgare), both give some useful height in the borders and are very drought-resistant. Both self-seed easily and are loved by pollinators. Verbascum nigrum is also the food plant of the rare Striped Lychnis moth which I have recorded on my allotment.
